Deep Dive: Sister Sledge
Today we celebrate the birthday of Kim Sledge, one of the members of the legendary singing group Sister Sledge, and we thought weâd honor her by spotlighting some of the singles by Kim and her sisters that didnât get as much pop airplay in the U.S. as they perhaps shouldâve.
Thatâs not to say the songs in this playlist werenât big hits on the R&B chart, mind you, and in one instance, they had a single that actually hit #1 in the UK but stalled at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100. Basically, weâre just saying that you might want to familiarize â or re-familiarize â yourself with more of Sister Sledgeâs songs than just âWe Are Familyâ and âHeâs The Greatest Dancer,â and weâre giving you that opportunity right now!
Before you dive into the playlist, however, here are a few videos that you might want to check out:
âLove Donât Go Through No Changes on Meâ (1974, #5 on the U.S. Dance chart)
âGot To Love Somebodyâ (1979, #6 on the US R&B Singles chart)
âAll American Girlsâ (1981, #3 on the US R&B Singles chart)
âHeâs Just a Runawayâ (1981, #6 on the US R&B Singles chart)
âMy Guyâ (1982, #2 on the US Adult Contemporary chart)
âFrankieâ (1985, #1 on the UK Singles chart)
