Black History Month: Deep Dive – INCorporated Thang Band, LIFESTYLES OF THE ROACH AND FAMOUS
Itâs the last day of February, which means itâs the last day of Black History Month, which means this is the last of our Deep Dives to celebrate underrated artists who particularly ought to be celebrated this month. As such, weâre doing our deepest dive yet and giving you the opportunity to introduce yourself to the INCorporated Thang Band! Itâs not an introduction that takes very long, mind you, since the band only released a single album during the course of their existence, but itâs one thatâs still worth making.
Oh, did we not mention that itâs a P-Funk spinoff? Yeah, sorry, we meant to do that. Thatâs on us. But, yes, the band consists of Lige Curry (lead vocals, bass), Andre Foxxe (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Patrick âBoogieâ Drummond (vocals, keyboards), Robert âSlyâ Garrett (keyboards vocals), Chris Bruce (guitar), Dean Ragland (drums), Claudia White (vocals), and Angel Keener (vocals). Not only that, but itâs produced by George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, with Curry and Andre Williams serving as âMack Roachâ producers.
Those among us who are children of the â80s or earlier will recognize that the title of the album is a play on the popular syndicated TV series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, but thereâs nothing froufrou about the contents of the LP. No, sir, this is straight up funk. Two of the songs were released as singles â âBody Jackinââ and âStill Tightâ â and while neither became hits, there was a video made for the former song.
So thatâs a wrap on another Black History Monthâ¦but you canât say we didnât go deep!
