Dexys Do Irish & Country
Young soul rebels from Birmingham, England, Dexys Midnight Runners shot to stardom in the early 1980s with such irresistible hits as “Come On Eileen.” Thirty years later, the band is back with a shorter name – and some unfinished business. “We had the idea to do this album in 1984 or 1985,” says founder Kevin Rowland of the new LET THE RECORD SHOW DEXYS DO IRISH AND COUNTRY SOUL, and the years have broadened the original concept of songs reflecting Rowland and co-producer/core band member Sean Read's Irish roots (“Carrickfergus,” “Curragh Of Kildare”) to include unexpected favorites like “You Wear It Well” and “Grazing In The Grass.” Whatever their origins, these dozen songs all display the distinctive Dexys style – it's clear the band have poured their hearts into every track. This record shows DEXYS DO IRISH AND COUNTRY SOUL, and do them brilliantly.
