Today's Rocktober Releases...

As you already know if you read our post last week, it’s not just October here at Rhino Records, it’s Rocktober, which means that we’re offering up new limited-edition vinyl reissues every Tuesday in October, and as today is Tuesday, we’re here to let you know what you can now go pick up at your friendly neighborhood record store or online music retailer.

Iron Butterfly – HEAVY (Stereo Version) – 180-gram vinyl, $19.98

Everybody remembers Iron Butterfly’s most popular album, IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA, but not nearly as many people are aware that the band actually released an album prior to that: HEAVY, which hit stores on January 22, 1968. It didn’t earn them any hit singles, but it sold relatively well nonetheless it made it into the upper half of the Billboard Top 200, which is pretty impressive for a new band – and it established Iron Butterly as a rock ‘n’ roll force to be reckoned with, a status that they would take to the next level before year’s end. If you’ve never heard it before, now’s the time to familiarize yourself with an unheralded heavy metal classic…emphasis on the HEAVY.

ZZ TOP – ELIMINATOR – Red colored vinyl, $19.98

Although these mostly-bearded boys from Texas had already more than made a name for themselves in the years leading up to this album, the combination of the mainstream material and the opportunity to have fun with this new medium known as “music video” helped turn ZZ Top’s eighth studio album into the most successful album of their career. With singles like “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs,” “Got Me Under Pressure,” and “TV Dinners,” ELIMINATOR sold over 10 million copies in the United States alone, and you’ll be pleased to know that not only does it still hold up, but now it looks cooler than ever, thanks to this red vinyl reissue.
