David Bowie VH1 STORYTELLERS Cover

Twenty years ago – on August 23, 1999, to be precise – David Bowie became one of many superstars to participate in VH-1’s much-beloved Storytellers series, and when he invited special guests to attend his performance for the episode at the Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom, those individuals truly got the show of a lifetime.

Having put together a set list that would represent as much of the past as possible while making sure to still spotlight the present, Bowie knocked his installment of Storytellers out of the park, thrilling fans by digging out “Can’t Help Thinking About Me” for its first performance in 33 years, “Drive-In Saturday” for the first time in 25 years, and “Word on a Wing” for the first time in 23 years. On top of that, he also offered up classic tracks like “Life on Mars?” and “China Girl” along with newer tracks like “Seven” and “Always Crashing in the Same Car.”
