Now Available: Ramones, Ramones: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Reissue

Gabba gabba hey, have you heard that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Ramones’ self-titled debut album? For those who weren’t there in ’76 with their ears pealed upon the LP’s release, you can’t really wrap your head around just how much it changed the musical status quo for these “bruddas” from Forest Hills to suddenly show up and rip their way through punk-pop numbers the way they did. The songs were as catchy as they were loud and raw, and they transformed more than a few kids into full-fledged punk rockers as a result of the wondrous material they delivered on that album, and its iconic status is why we’ve released a special 40th anniversary edition of Ramones.

Although the original album clocked in at just under half an hour (it’s a mere 29 minutes in length), this new, limited-edition release offers up 3 CDs and one vinyl LP while also delivering a 12x12 hardcover book to house it in.

What do you get in this set? A remastered stereo version of the album, a mono mix of the album, a variety of demos and rarities, and a previously-unreleased live show from The Roxy in West Hollywood on August 12, 1976. Even better, it’s all been produced, mixed, and mastered by Craig Leon, who produced and mixed Ramones the first time around. The book included within RAMONES: 40th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION features Leon’s production notes about the original recording sessions, an essay about the band’s early days bv Mitchell Cohen, and pictures by Roberta Bayley, the photographer who captured the iconic photo on the album cover.
