Now Available: Jeff Beck, LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL (Digital Download)

Back in the summer of 2016 – it seems like a lifetime ago, doesn’t it? – Jeff Beck decided to celebrate the first 50 years of his musical career with a performance at one of the world’s most famous venues featuring some extremely talented musicians playing alongside him. Now, Rhino is making the audio document of that evening available for digital download and steaming.

The guest list for Beck’s performance included such notable names as Billy F. Gibbons, Buddy Guy, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart, and Steven Tyler, but when you listen to Live at the Hollywood Bowl, there’s no question that Beck was the star of the show. Having built a set list filled with many musical highlights from his back catalog, Beck mixed things up from various eras of his career, keeping the concertgoers guessing while also fulfilling their hopes of hearing as many of his greatest hits as possible.

“For his 50th anniversary show, Beck seemed intent to awe us all. From beginning the night with Yardbirds songs to jamming with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Beck was making it happen. Of course, his good friend Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top came out to blow us away with the blues, as well.

“And just when I thought the night couldn’t get better, the opening act (oh, you may know of him: Mr. Buddy Guy, an absolute blues legend) came out and finished the night onstage with Jeff Beck. Guy was lighthearted and fun on stage, bringing the best out of the night’s headliner.

“Some of the newer original tunes from the guitar master were actually quite good. The lyrics were about this crazy, superficial world, and the music was soulful funk/blues — a unique combo that was surprisingly awesome. Let’s face it, many “legacy acts” don’t write the best modern music, but Jeff Beck and his band delivered.”
